Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe will request a transfer to Real Madrid in a private meeting with PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, according to El Chiringuito’s Josep Pedrerol. It’s not clear if the player will publicly reveal his decision to the press as Gazzetta Dello Sport reported last week, but Mbappe is set to tell Al-Khelaifi not only that he is not going to sign an extension but also that he wants to leave this summer and not in 2022 as a free agent.

What PSG will do after that meeting between the president and the attacker remains to be seen, given that they simply don’t need the money. Other clubs in European football would take advantage of the situation and sell the player while they can, but PSG have the opportunity to gather the world’s attention with a Messi-Neymar-Mbappe offensive line, so they could very well wait a year and then let Mbappe leave as a free agent.

However, it’s also clear that keeping a player against his will is not the ideal scenario for any club. If PSG don’t sell Mbappe this summer, will he be as committed as his new teammates or will he try to avoid injuries so that his next contract with Madrid is not in danger?

In any case, there are just two weeks until the summer transfer window closes, so this transfer saga is set to conclude soon no matter what happens.
