After securing contract extensions for Thibaut Courtois and Dani Carvajal, Real Madrid are now shifting their focus on renewing Fede Valverde, per a report from Fabrizio Romano.

“Real Madrid are working to extend Fede Valverde’s contract,” Romano said in a Tweet on Tuesday. “Agreement close to be completed as Real consider him one of the ‘untouchable’ players for present and future.

New deal expected to be announced soon after Carvajal and Courtois.”

Locking down Fede Valverde is going to be a popular move. The Uruguayan, who was signed by Real Madrid Castilla in 2016, has turned into a fan favourite after putting in important performances for the team in various positions in midfield, and even as a makeshift right-back at Anfield against Liverpool in the Champions League last season.

Valverde’s contract already currently runs until 2025, and renewing him now would send a message of confidence to him, while giving the club long-term security on a future midfield cornerstone.
