Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has suffered a groin injury in during Friday’s training session and will miss the team’s away match against Levante this Sunday. Modric will get tests on his injury this weekend and could potentially miss more time. Furthermore, groin injuries are always very tricky and Modric is a veteran player, so it will be important for Madrid not to rush him back.
This is devastating news for Real Madrid, who are without Toni Kroos as well. Coach Carlo Ancelotti will likely be forced to start Casemiro, Valverde and Isco in the midfield against Levante, but there aren’t many more players who could be deployed in that line if those three pick up some kind of issue.
Antonio Blanco or David Alaba are also two options for that spot, but Alaba’s presence in the left-back position seems crucial at least until Ferland Mendy recovers from his injury. Either way, Real Madrid will have to take care of business against Levante without their two playmakers in the midfield.
