Real Madrid have announced that their backup goalkeeper Andriy Lunin has tested positive for Covid-19 and will spend the next few weeks isolating. That means that Los Blancos will be without their reserve keeper when they face Betis next Saturday.
While it’s clear that Lunin was going to be on the bench at least until the first Copa del Rey games, he completed a solid pre-season and having him as Courtois’ backup is important in case something happens to the Belgian goalkeeper.
Toni Fuidias has been Real Madrid’s third keeper on their squad lists and he will be the team’s backup until Lunin tests negative and is allowed to train and play. Keep in mind that there’s a FIFA break coming up right after the away match against Betis, so Lunin should be available after that two-week break.
In the meantime, it will be crucial for Madrid that Courtois doesn’t get sent off or injured.
