It’s official. Real Madrid have announced that right-back Alvaro Odriozola has signed for Fiorentina on a loan deal which will expire at the end of the current 2021-2022 season. Odriozola was Madrid’s third choice at the right-back spot behind Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez, so the club decided to send him on loan so that he could play minutes as a starter.
Fiorentina will reportedly pay Odriozola’s full salary and they will not have an option to buy him after the loan deal expires. Make no mistake though, it won’t be easy for Odriozola to earn a spot in Real Madrid’s roster for the 2022-2023 season.
Odriozola signed for Madrid after Los Blancos spent €30 million in 2018. His contract with Real Madrid will expire in 2024 and he has been a liability when given the chance to play ever. Los Blancos will be hoping that he gets significant playing time this season so that his value increases and decent, permanent offers come their way next summer.
