Real Madrid Femenino’s first competitive match of the season will be one of the biggest matches in the team’s short history. Las Blancas will play Manchester City in the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano in the first leg of their UEFA Women’s Champions League qualifier.

Las Blancas and Manchester City both finished in second place in their domestic leagues, missing out on automatic qualification for the UWCL. Yash Thakur wrote a brilliant piece that details the way Gareth Taylor’s side will play which you can check out here.

Real Madrid were deemed underdogs as soon as the draw was made. This underdog status has only been heightened due to Marta Cardona’s injury, Maite Oroz’s recent knock, and the absence of Kosovare Asllani, who tested positive for COVID-19.

The teams will kickoff in a packed Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano at 3:00 p.m. EST (9:00 p.m. CET). The tie will be decided over two legs with the winner advancing to the UWCL group stage.
