It’s official. Real Madrid have announced the signing of French midfielder Eduardo Camavinga for a reported fee of €30 million. Camavinga, who is 18 years old, leaves Stade Rennais when he had just one year left on his deal with the French side. He signed a six-year deal.
This transfer came out of nowhere. While every single reporter and fan was focused on the latest developments around the Mbappe saga, Canal Plus France reported the news that Real Madrid and Rennais were in advances talks for Camavinga. Later, that report was confirmed by the Spanish media and today the deal was confirmed.
Camavinga is a pure central midfielder who will compete with Kroos, Modric and Valverde for minutes. His role in the 2021-2022 squad is not clear as he will almost certainly be behind all those players in the rotation, so he will have to keep developing and improving as a player before he can actually be a key player for Real Madrid.
