PSG striker Kylian Mbappe has reportedly turned down a new contract renewal from the club that would make him the highest-paid player in the world, according to Le Parisien.

Mbappe reportedly refused a contract worth around €45 million per year, which is higher than what both his teammates Lionel Messi and Neymar earn annually. The contract reportedly was a two-year extension.

This comes after PSG reportedly refused a last-minute €200 million transfer offer for Mbappe from Real Madrid on the August 31 transfer deadline. PSG stuck to their word and did not accept any of the three reported offers from Los Blancos.

A screenshot from the Real Madrid subreddit shows an Instagram story that reads: “Respect for my brother for your professionalism. Reprogram your dreams for some time soon. Life is wonderful, you’re the best.” I don’t think he’s [Mbappe] renewing with them.” The story was reportedly retweeted by Mbappe before deletion several minutes later.

Mbappe’s current contract with PSG is set to expire in summer 2022. Should Real Madrid still be his destination of choice, Mbappe will be eligible to leave on a free transfer after his contract’s conclusion.
