Stade Rennais coach Bruno Genesio talked to the press this Friday and shared his thoughts about Eduardo Camavinga’s first performances for Real Madrid. Genesio coach Camavinga for the last two seasons.

“Eduardo needed to clear up his mind and find a different challenge outside of France,” said Genesio when asked about his former midfielder.

Camavinga had an impressive 2019-2020 season but failed to meet expectations last campaign. However, he has made a tremendous impact for Real Madrid so far, scoring a goal and delivering a game-winning assist in just 34 minutes played over two appearances. Genesio also discussed why Camavinga struggled a bit last year.

“Football players don’t lose their ability that easily. I’m very happy that he recovered that excitement to play and be on the field,” he said. Genesio said something similar when asked about the transfer a few weeks ago.

“Here it had become difficult for him, and it was tough for us too because we all wanted to see him well. In my opinion, he didn’t feel well. The best thing would’ve been to extend his contract for another season but I also think that it’s good for him to go outside of France,” added Genesio back then.

While it won’t be easy for Camavinga to keep contending for a spot in the starting lineup once Toni Kroos recovers from his injury, the young midfielder has proved he belongs and will definitely be a very exciting player for many years to come.
