Real Madrid legendary goalkeeper Iker Casillas recently spoke about his ‘friend’ and former teammate Sergio Ramos who left the club for PSG over the summer.
“Whenever a friend goes outside it is more difficult to see him at another club. “[It’s] a shame, but another player like [David] Alaba has come and that is the beauty of football, see new people.”
“The case of Sergio [Ramos] is the one that can surprise you the most because you have been with him for a long time linked to Real Madrid, but in football it is a constant that the players move the market.”
Both players spent extensive time with and captaining the Spanish club during their careers. Ramos joined Real Madrid from Valencia in 2005 while Casillas worked his way throughout the youth academy from 1990. They were also teammates for the Spanish international team for many years, playing in several EUROs and World Cup tournaments.
Casillas also took some time to shift the conversation to the youth while talking about Vinicius. An interesting dynamic as a former longtime Madrid player talks about a younger Madrid player who hopes to have a similarly extensive career with the club.
“We’re all looking forward to him continuing in the projection he is making. He is a young player, but he gives more and more and that is good.”
