Marco Asensio is not happy. The man from Mallorca did not feature for a single minute in the match vs Valencia this weekend. In the mid-week Champions League clash vs Inter Milan, Asensio entered the match at the 90th minute, with little time to make an impact. According to journalist Anton Meana, on Spanish radio’s El Laguero, “hay caso Asensio”, the player and his environment have been surprised and disappointed by the lack of minutes.
According to the report, Asensio had offers from others clubs this summer but ignored them to pursue his dream of succeeding at Real Madrid. He is physically at 100% and is frustrated given the trust Ancelotti told him he would have earlier this summer. If Asensio continues to be left out of the team, then a conversation with the manager will be had to help clarify his future. This week will be pivotal in regards to any decision made by Asensio and his team.
It’s still early in the season and rotations will be necessary. Marco Asensio will likely be given plenty of opportunities to try and prove himself once again. The 25-year-old has yet to hit the levels expected of him after his first breakout season with the club in 2016-2017. If he is to win over Ancelotti, then he will have to do so on the field rather than leaking threats to the press.
