Carlo Ancelotti implemented four rotations into the side to face Mallorca: Rodrygo replaced Hazard, Asensio replaced Modric, Camavinga for Casemiro, and Miguel Gutierrez plugged in on the left while Nacho replaced the injured Carvajal at the right back position. The average age of the squad was 25-years-old. A difference of 5 years from the average age of the starting XI from matchday 1. Young and fresh legs will be crucial to help bull through the slog of fixtures building up in the coming weeks and months. The match also provided an opportunity for Takefusa Kubo to strut his stuff in front of his parent club and play his first match at the Santiago Bernabeu. Unfortunately for Kubo, a make-shift Mallorca side proved to be a disaster defensively. Real Madrid ran riot, scoring six goals, including a hat-trick for the Mallorcan himself, Marco Asensio.

Full match player ratings below:

Thibaut Courtois—7: Had very little to do over the course of 90 minutes, but made 4 saves in total with 2 from inside the box.

Nacho—6.5: Played at right back and kept Lago Junior quiet. Had a few mist-timed gambles, but otherwise put in another solid shift.

David Alaba—8: First game in the Santiago Bernabeu and the Austrian’s ability to help Madrid move up the pitch with both his ball carrying ability and vertical passes were on full display.

Miguel Guttierrez—7: The Canterano was given another opportunity at left back and despite an early miscalculated 1 v 1 against Kubo, Miguel held his own defensively and was a great partner to Vinicius in the attack. Curled a couple of great deliveries into the box — a cornerstone of his game.

Camavinga—7: Received a standing ovation from the Bernabeu in his first start at his new home. Was clean and confident in possession, but exposed a few times in Ancelotti’s pressing scheme with what at times featured a flat midfield three.

Marco Asensio—10: After the midweek rumors, Asensio did his talking on the pitch. A hattrick against his boyhood club, certainty a night Marco Asensio will never forget.

Fede Valverde—7: Played as a left central midfielder was a little more daring and incisive with his passing coming from that position.

Vinicius JR—8.5: Managed an assist, should have scored a couple goals, but was a constant nuisance for the Mallorca backline. Oftentimes, it would take three Mallorca players surrounding the ball to try and win it off Vini yet he’d still find a way to move up the pitch.

Rodrygo Goes—7.5: Another strong game on the right wing, Rodyrgo is pushing hard for a starting spot in this team. Had a lovely solo run down the right flank resulting in an assist for Benzema but the goal was disallowed due to a VAR review of a Benzema push.

Karim Benzema—10: 2 goals, 2 assists, 5 key passes — enough said, KB9 continues to wreak havoc on La Liga.

Substitutions:

Antonio Blanco—7: Played 30 minutes coming in off the bench for Camavinga, who was a booking away from being sent off. Looked assured on the ball and his passing put his teammates in more favorable positions with the people ahead of their path on their strong foot. Very composed when on the pitch, plays his game regardless of the opponent or score.

Lucas Vazquez—5: Limited impact, ball got caught under his feet on a couple of occasions.

Isco—7: Another good showing off the bench, somehow managed 5 completed dribbles in only 20 minutes.

Luka Jovic—7: Poor Luka Jovic, the man cannot buy a goal right now. Had a lovely scissor kick volley get tipped over by Reina’s finger tips and another header that rattled off the crossbar.

Sergio Santos—6: A debut for the young Castilla right back, managed one quality cross into the box to Jovic.
