A Casino at the Bernabeu and other Crazy Football Rumours

Football can be a crazy game on the pitch. But sometimes, it is just as crazy off it. If you need evidence of this, remember that Lionel Messi left Barcelona this year. And if that isn't enough, here are some of the latest footballing rumours, including some eyebrow-raising ones.

The Bernabeu casino

One of the latest football rumours to come out of Real Madrid is that the owners are considering putting a casino in the corner of the stadium. This casino would be accessible to some fans on matchdays and be open on other days of the week to host regular gamblers and friends on evenings out.

This wouldn't be the first time a casino has been added to a sports stadium. The home of the Las Vegas Raiders, the Allegiant Stadium, already has a casino built-in which is exceptionally profitable by attracting tourists and sports fans. Maybe it wouldn't be bad business for Real Madrid to add a casino after all. It would provide a great opportunity to partner with providers of casino games and online slot portfolios, which could increase revenue streams.

The goalscoring fan

Over in the UK, ex-manager Harry Redknapp is known for telling some outrageously funny stories from behind the scenes at a host of Premier League football clubs. But none are as wild as the story about Mr Redknapp bringing on a fan at half-time for West Ham United in a pre-season friendly.

The story goes like this. Harry had a fan behind him in the stands shouting that his striker wasn’t very good and that he was better than him. At half-time, Harry decided to bring the fan onto the pitch to replace the striker he had been criticising. But the funniest part of this story is the fan came onto the pitch and scored.

It gets even funnier. The substitute announcer didn't know who the player coming on the field was, so Harry told him he was the new Bulgarian striker. It's rumoured that the substitute announcer then said, "I thought it was him".

Zinedine Zidane to Manchester United?

Manchester United are known to pull the trigger on managers quickly after Sir Alex Ferguson left the dugout. But the latest rumours have a bit of tongue-in-cheek about them. There are some rumours that Zidane is being headhunted to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

More comically, there are even some rumours that Manchester United are talking to Newcastle United's Steve Bruce and fictional England manager Mike Basset.
