Takefusa Kubo did not have a happy homecoming. The Japanese playmaker saw his team lose 6-1 at the hands of Real Madrid, while Kubo himself had to be taken off at halftime. Initially, the change appeared to be tactical, but after the match an Instagram post from Kubo revealed there was a serious injury.

Kubo’s post read the following: “Unfortunately, yesterday I suffered an injury to my knee in a 50/50 duel in the first half of the game that will take me off the pitch for a while, although it is not serious. It hurts me not to be able to help the team on the pitch but now it’s time to cheer on my teammates from the outside and work now to come back stronger”

According to Goal Espana, Kubo will be out for a minimum of one month, if not longer. The injury came after a clash with Benzema very early on in the match. Kubo tried to play through the pain to see out the half. Ultimately, he left the Bernabeu in crutches. The treatment plan as well as the MRI were conducted at Valdebebas. Real Mallorca will now have to cope without their young starlet as Kubo begins his road to recovery.
