Real Madrid had the option to sell attacker Marco Asensio this past summer after clubs like Arsenal, Milan or Tottenham showed interest in his signing, according to Asensio’s own agent Horacio Gaggioli, who talked in an interview with Cadena SER. The Spanish radio station then went on and revealed that Arsenal offered €40 million to sign Asensio away from Real Madrid.
Gaggioli then explained what coach Carlo Ancelotti told Asensio.
“Ancelotti told him that he counted on him to play through the center of the field. He told him ‘I want you to stay, I know you are not a pure winger and that you need to play in the center’. That was a good talk and it happened just a month ago,” said Asensio’s agent.
Asensio made a statement during Real Madrid’s home win against Mallorca, scoring a hat-trick and proving that he will be an interesting player for Carlo Ancelotti going forward, even more so if he is given the chance to play as a second striker or behind Benzema, just like in Wednesday’s match.
