After seeing off Cádiz with a 3-0 win, Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti spoke to the press about the win and also about a hot topic with the battle for the number one shirt in goal. He said: “What’s important is that Lunin was ready quickly when Kepa was injured, and he’s done very well. Kepa will be back for Granada and if he’s fit enough, he’ll play”

Ancelotti on Rodrygo’s performance

“Rodrygo is back. He made the difference today. He played a good game, with a good attitude and quality, managing the game well. We’re very happy because after the game it can look simple, but you have to handle the game well and that’s what we did from start to finish.”

Ancelotti on Luka Modrić’s role and fitness

“Modrić has a strain in his hamstring, he played very well in a position which isn’t his own on a defensive level.”

Ancelotti on resting Antonio Rüdiger

“Today the doubt was Alaba or Rüdiger because Nacho has trained very well, but I preferred to give rest to Alaba because they rely a lot on the long balls and Rüdiger is good in that sense and so he helped. All three defenders are doing a good job and we’ll rotate when we can in the next few games.”

Ancelotti on Jude Bellingham’s injury

“Yes, he’s good. The shoulder is well protected and so he’s good, and he played a good game just like the others.”

Ancelotti on motivating his players

“I think the difficulty can be all of the changes, but it can also be an opportunity and a motivation. I think the players understood it, with all the injuries we have to important players, we’ve handled it well before with Courtois, Militão, Vinícius, Bellingham, and today too and we were good on the pitch today.”

Ancelotti on Dani Ceballos’ return

“Ceballos is very good, he wanted to play and he was good. He has a lot of quality on the ball, he’s a very generous player who can help us. His absence has been long, and now fortunately he’s back and he’s good.”

Ancelotti on the season so far

“Up to now we’ve done very well, the team are competing and fighting for every game. Now we have other games and it’s an important time in the season with important games coming up, especially in the league and in the group stages of the Champions League. Today’s game gives me confidence.”

Ancelotti on Brahim Díaz’s illness

“I wanted to rest Rodrygo. Brahim had an intestinal problem before the match. I put Rodrygo in and it worked out well, I was a bit lucky in that regard.”
