Following Real Madrid’s 4-2 win over Napoli, which secured top spot in the group, Carlo Ancelotti appeared in the Bernabéu press room and analysed the game as so: “It was an even game against a quality opponent. We could have done better defensively. We were quite well organised in defence, but weren’t aggressive enough. We did well with the ball, even if we played without much urgency. However, just when it looked like we didn’t have energy, the team showed that energy to win the game in the final moments. We can still get better in defence, but in general we’ve improved in this area, doing much better since the Atlético game when we conceded from so many crosses.”

Ancelotti on Rodrygo’s return to form

On the good form of Rodrygo, the coach said: “He never gave up and then the first goal after the drought was a click for him to get back to what he does best, which is scoring goals. He is really good, so it was only a matter of time.”

Ancelotti on Bellingham’s continued bright start

On Jude Bellingham’s latest excellent performance, the coach stated: “It’s hard to compare him with others. It’s true that Bellingham surprises you every game. He is a gift for football. Obviously the coach, teammates and fans of Real Madrid love him, but I think the general world of football is excited to see a player like this. He’s young, but has adapted well to the dressing room. He just needs to improve his Spanish, nobody is perfect!”

Ancelotti on Nico Paz’s goal

Analysing Nico Paz’s first goal for the club, he said: “It’s a special night for him and obviously he is a player for the future of Real Madrid. He has all the quality that a Real Madrid player needs to have. He came up big for the team at a moment when we needed it.”

Ancelotti on Joselu apologising to the Bernabéu

Asked for his thoughts on Joselu’s gesture, with which he apologised to the Bernabéu after scoring his goal for having previously missed so many chances, the coach said: “In the end, he did his job. I don’t just ask strikers to score goals, even if they obviously have to do that when they have the chance. He has been good over the first half of the season. A player might apologise when they haven’t worked hard, but he has been working hard.”

Ancelotti on the injuries

Asked if any players should return from the medical list before the game against Granada on Saturday, he replied: “I don’t think so. We’ll prepare for that match with this group.”
