In what is a regular occurrence in La Liga, Real Madrid have released yet another video ahead of their match this weekend, this time about the man who will officiate Saturday’s game against Granada.
His name is Martinez Munuera, and Real Madrid do not have fond memories of him. Earlier this season, he ignored two clear penalties that should’ve been awarded to Carlo Ancelotti’s men against Rayo Vallecano at the Bernabeu.
The most famous case, or the call that hurt Real Madrid the most involving Munuera, was actually in the 2020 - 2021 season.
In Real Madrid’s match in hand against Sevilla, a win could’ve helped them seal the league title. But the match ended 2 - 2, in part because of a huge turning point in the game where Karim Benzema earned a penalty, but the decision was reversed, and instead, Munuera took the play all the way back to an incident where Eder Militao was called for a very harsh handball in his own box. Sevilla earned a penalty as a result.
