Real Madrid might have suffered yet another season-ending injury after defender David Alaba went down during the first half of the match against Villarreal with what appeared to be a serious knee injury. Alaba tweaked his knee and was seen in a lot of pain and also visibly scared as he was leaving the field of play.
If any kind of structural damage is confirmed, Alaba would likely miss the remainder of the season, which means that Real Madrid’s only available center-backs would be Antonio Rudiger and Nacho Fernandez. While Eder Militao seems to be recovering well from his own ACL tear, his return during the second half of the season is questionable at best.
That could ultimately force Real Madrid to explore the transfer market unless coach Carlo Ancelotti decides to use players like Mendy or Tchouameni in the center of the defensive line.
A medical report on Alaba’s injury should be expected on Monday.
