Real Madrid’s injury woes continue as left-back Ferland Mendy has been sidelined with a muscle injury that will keep him out of action until after Christmas, at least. The French defender was substituted at half time during Real Madrid’s 4-1 win over Villarreal on Sunday, after feeling some discomfort in his leg.

But now that muscle discomfort looks like something a bit worse. According to Spanish radio station COPE, Mend will miss at least the next game against Alavés, and will likely not return to training until the end of the year.

This is the third muscle injury that Mendy has suffered this season.

In his absence, Real Madrid will rely on Fran García, who replaced him against Villarreal and impressed with his performance.

Real Madrid are currently second in La Liga, two points behind leaders Girona. They will face Alavés on Thursday, December 21, at the Mendizorroza Stadium in Vitoria.
