Carlo Ancelotti spoke to the media ahead of Real Madrid’s final game of the year, away to Alaves on Thursday. Following David Alaba’s unfortunate injury, Ancelotti covered a wide range of topics. When asked about signing a replacement, Ancelotti said: “I’m not saying no, we have spoken with the club, we will evaluate it in these days, there is time. The market in January does not end until the 31st of that month, we will look for the best possible solution. For the moment, we are in no hurry. We are going to finish the year well and then there is time to make the best possible decision.”

Ancelotti on injuries

“This is a very difficult moment. I have to thank the players who are holding on. They’re special, what we’re doing is special.”

Ancelotti’s thoughts on multiple ACL injuries to Real Madrid players this season

“This is an unexpected injury, you can’t imagine it. Courtois, Alaba and Militao had never had problems with their knees while we have other players have discomforts in their knees and nothing happened to them. It’s unexpected.”

Ancelotti on the consensus on making a signing

“I’m not saying whether I would like it or not, I’m saying that we will think about it. Together, we will make the best decision.”

Ancelotti on what kind of signing he would make in defense

“It’s not the time to talk about names. If there is a good possibility, we will do it. There is time to think about it.”

Ancelotti on Tchouaméni potentially playing at centre-back

“He doesn’t like to play as a center-back, just like Camavinga doesn’t like to play as a full-back. In the emergency, he did very well. He knows that if there is an emergency, he will play there. But his future is as a midfielder, we all know that.”

Ancelotti on who will start in goal against Alavés

“I don’t have the idea of rotating goalkeepers, both are doing very well. Lunin has progressed a lot, he has shown a lot of security when he has played. And Kepa has maintained his level. When Kepa has returned, I would like to reward both of them. Tomorrow Kepa plays and then I’ll choose one of the two for the rest of the season.”

Ancelotti on Bellingham clashing with referees

“I don’t think we should remember all this because of one referee’s gesture. It was not a lack of respect, it may be that the referee, who is a judge, has to avoid these things, but I keep in mind that referees also get heated with protests. I don’t think it’s serious enough to create a problem that doesn’t exist.”

Ancelotti on the objective against Alavés

“To continue with the good dynamic of the last few games, to get the three points. And finish 2023 well.”

Ancelotti on the European Super League

“We are all waiting for this decision, it can be important for the future of European soccer. Afterwards, we will see what can happen.”

Ancelotti on drawing RB Leipzig in the Champions League

“They are a team that competes, that fights, with good individuals, that does well in the German championship. The opponent is very good. They have a lot of quality.”

Ancelotti on RFEF releasing VAR audios

“I see it as a small detail, quite curious, but nothing more. I don’t care what the referees talk about during the match. I wish them all the best in 2024. Or at least, that they make fewer mistakes than in 2023.”

Ancelotti on meeting Endrick

“I’m delighted, I think the experience the young players have had from Brazil is the experience he wants to have. He’s excited and delighted to be back in July.”

Ancelotti on his future

“The future is the game and the week off. The contract ends on June 30. If there is any news, I will tell you”.
