Manchester United defender and former Real Madrid player Raphael Varane is interested in a potential return to the Spanish capital amidst the team’s injury crisis, according to a report published on AS. Madrid are exploring the transfer market and Varane would be a viable target as his contract with Manchester United expires in the summer of 2024 if he triggers an option to leave the British clause.
Bayern Munich are also interested in the signing of the French defender, who would be keen on leaving Manchester United. Knowing that Varane could potentially leave as a free agent next summer, the Red Devils would be forced to sell Varane during the winter window for an affordable price, with Bayern reportedly willing to offer around €20 million.
While Varane is 30 years old and no longer at his peak, he knows the club, the current coaching staff and also La Liga’s style of play, so his return would make sense, as he is also willing to sign for less money than his current deal with Manchester United.
