Real Madrid have a decision to make about Girona left-back Miguel Gutierrez. Los Blancos have a €8 million buyback option for the young left-back and also the ability to match any offer Girona accept for the defender, even if that happens during the winter transfer window.
While Gutierrez will almost certainly end the 2023-2024 season with Girona, it’s also clear that he will join a bigger club next summer. The young defender has been one of the main reasons why Girona are currently second in La Liga table and his potential seems to be off the charts right now, so quality clubs will certainly try to sign him away from Girona next summer.
If they’re interested in bringing Miguel Gutierrez back, Real Madrid could very well trigger their €8 million option this winter, but it would be effective after the end of the season. That would prevent other clubs from sending bigger offers Girona’s way.
However, Real Madrid have their sights on Alphonso Davies. His contract with Bayern expires in 2025 but the German club could be forced to entertain negotiations if Davies refuses to sign an extension. Furthermore, Madrid also have Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia in the squad, so the odds of Gutierrez’s return to the Spanish capital aren’t that high right now.
All things considered, Real Madrid should definitely have some kind of plan as Gutierrez’s future is about to be decided.
