Ancelotti: “Real Madrid are very dangerous, because there is mobility up top”

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti celebrated winning the Spanish Super Cup with a 4-1 win over Barcelona and spoke to the press post-game. As he did so, he explained what made the team so dangerous as they scored nine goals across two games in Saudi Arabia, saying, “We are very dangerous, because there is mobility up top, there are no fixed positions and that doesn’t allow the opponent to fix the markers. Vinícius gets in, Bellingham, Rodrygo... with the help of the full-backs, they create a lot of danger. Mobility is what creates problems.”

Ancelotti on the victory

“We wanted to win and we did it with merit. We didn’t start very well, but we found Vinícius in an extraordinary moment and, from there, another one started. Barcelona managed the ball, looked for opportunities and, until 4-1, it was open. We tried to control it, without pressing too high. It was a complete match and we are very happy.”

Ancelotti on Vini’s clashes with the Barcelona bench

“I don’t know what happened with Vinícius and the bench. He has done an incredible job and I took him off to avoid problems, because he is coming off an injury. He should focus on his work, as he said today, which is to give hope and titles to Real Madrid fans.”

Ancelotti on the difference between the teams

“I think the result was resounding, but the match... we took an early lead and, until 4-1, it was an open game. They handled the ball well and it was hard for us to get it back. If we thought it was easy, we were wrong.”

Ancelotti on his work with Vinícius

“He scored the goal in last year’s Copa, then in LALIGA, Araújo’s own goal was forced by him. Sometimes it’s more difficult for him, because Araújo is a world-class defender, but today he looked very well for the tackle on the inside, instead of the outside.”

Ancelotti on the key to success

“The atmosphere. That everyone is capable of adding value. There is motivation, everyone has their role. But there is danger of losing your place too, that’s true.”

Ancelotti on how he feels

“The best thing is to enjoy this moment and be focused on what is coming. To keep working, because I like the work I do and the atmosphere here. I have very important help from the coaching staff and players, they show seriousness and professionalism. This club supports me and gives me love. I am on cloud nine. But you can also come down from the clouds. I will come down and you will be there.”

Ancelotti on his role

“The most important role is always played by the players and the coach must adapt. We try to do a collective role that is to the liking of all the players.”

Ancelotti on who will start in goal against Atleti, after confirming it would be Lunin

“I didn’t say that. [Journalists confirmed that he did] I don’t remember saying that. Nothing has changed. Thursday’s game is a match for Lunin and Kepa will be back in LALIGA.”

Ancelotti on a confidence boost

“We have confidence, we have had it from the beginning to the end. And we have it because we have a very strong team, with very high-level individuals and a very motivated atmosphere.”

Ancelotti on Florentino’s pre-match message

“He wishes us luck. He is always convinced that we will win, and today, too.”
