The winter transfer window has officially started and right now Real Madrid are leaning towards not signing a center-back to replace David Alaba and compete with Nacho for the starting spot alongside Antonio Rudiger, per club sources.

Real Madrid believe that Aurelien Tchouameni, Ferland Mendy and even Eduardo Camavinga could get the job done if either Nacho or Rudiger miss a game. Furthermore, they also have faith in Nacho as a starter alongside Rudiger.

Los Blancos had been exploring the transfer market since Alaba got injured but they didn’t find a good market opportunity, even though former Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane was very keen on returning to the Spanish capital. Therefore, they ultimately decided to stay put and keep waiting to see if a good opportunity comes their way, but if it doesn’t they will simply end the season with their current squad.

Needless to say, it will be crucial for Madrid that both Rudiger and Nacho avoid injuries and suspensions during the rest of the campaign.
