Real Madrid will face Atletico de Madrid in the Copa del Rey’s Round of 16. It will be a single-elimination game played at the Metropolitano, so this is a very tough draw for Los Blancos. While the final date hasn’t been set, it looks like the match could be played on Thursday, January 18th.
That means that the two sides will meet for no less than three Madrid Derbies in less than a month, which is problematic for both sides considering how congested the schedule is in European football. The first of those meetings will take place this Wednesday in the Spanish Supercup Semifinals.
Atletico de Madrid managed to get the best out of Real on their first meeting of the season, dominating Ancelotti’s side in what’s been the only loss for Los Blancos so far this season. It will be interesting to see if coach Carlo Ancelotti makes some rotations for this Copa del Rey match, as Madrid Derbies are always intense.
