Here are five takeaways after the 5-1 win against Rayo Vallecano at the Santiago Bernabéu. Unsurprisingly, they're all positive for the White Knights.

It was another convincing win for Real Madrid, one that once again showed just how good things are going for Los Blancos right now. Here are the top five takeaways from that demolishing performance against Rayo Vallecano:

1. Depth is a problem (the good kind of problem)

Most people wondered what Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti was going to do once Gareth Bale was available again. Benching Isco or James sounded ridiculous, but like Carletto said, he needs more than 11 important players and boy his team easily meets that number.

Choosing between Isco, James or Bale is like choosing between a Maserati, a Porsche or a Ferrari (if you have a particular preference just bear with me). You just can't go wrong with any of those, and that was very clear early in the game against Rayo Vallecano, as Bale needed just nine minutes to score. They all offer a unique skill set and many alternatives for their coach which is a problem that Ancelotti knows only has positive outcomes. As an opposing team, it has to be a nightmare to think about all the match ups they might face against Real Madrid.

Of course, we're only talking about those three, but you can't forget about Jesé Rodríguez, who will hopefully return soon. Ancelotti also has Chicharito as a very effective alternative for Karim Benzema and, defensively, there's Nacho, Raphael Varane, Fábio Coentrao and so on. Even the best GK of the past World Cup is waiting on the bench! This is simply a ridiculous roster and it's easily the best team Ancelotti has ever had. What a lucky position to be in.

2. Karim Benzema is so damn good

Pretty obvious, huh? Well, not quite. There are still lots of Benz critics out there but luckily they're slowly accepting just how ridiculously good the French striker is. If not, all I can say is that they need to pay a bit more attention so they can finally enjoy one of the top players in the world right now.

He's not only a great striker, he does everything you could ask from a player in that position and even more. Karim makes setting up scoring chances and counters look very, very easy, making his teammates, particularly Cristiano Ronaldo, rather happy. His vision, timing and technique are out of this world and he's a big reason why this team has scored 42 Liga goals this year.

3. Fatigue sucks

It's true that Ronaldo looked a bit off last week against Liverpool and Rayo. He was not the only one though, as James Rodríguez also had a rough game at the Bernabéu last Saturday. The reason for those struggles might be fatigue, rather than just one bad night.

These guys are ridiculously good, and as elite players it's easy to expect greatness every time they jump on the pitch, but after a very demanding month that included Liga (and El Clásico), Champions League and Copa del Rey games, it's normal to see that effort taking its toll on the team. Bale's return and the Christmas break will help, but it's something to keep an eye on during the season. Ancelotti seems to know and understand this and with this ridiculous roster, rotations won't affect the team a lot.

4. Even an off CR7 is better than most players

The best player in the world is a unique player in football history. He's so good that even when things aren't looking too well for him, he still finds the most ridiculous ways to make an impact. Just look at his goal against Rayo. That's the reward after trying all day long (and a hilarious mistake by the GK). It wasn't his best night against Rayo Vallecano and he still scored, had two assists and three key passes. Not bad at all.

A lot of people think that Cristiano's 18 goals so far in La Liga are unbelievable but it's the exact opposite. He makes the most ridiculous things (an amazing header, impossible shots, or simply breaking record after record) look entirely normal. That's just how good the Portuguese star is, and he's far from done.

5. Real Madrid is the best team in La Liga

Last but not least, Real Madrid currently stands alone at the top of La Liga standings with 27 points, above Barcelona (25) and Valencia (24). Just a couple points, so this is far from over, right? Fair enough. However, there's one thing that immediately makes Los Blancos much better than the rest of La Liga: they've scored 42 goals. Forty two! In just eleven games! For an average of 3.8 goals per game! Barcelona, with their ridiculous offensive power, have 17 goals less than that (25). Those are just insane numbers.

About the second best team in La Liga (or at least in the standings), let's remember El Clásico for a second. Barcelona were looking good early but once Real Madrid settled down, it was over for them, and it never looked like they had a chance to even tie that game. A 3-1 was a very decent result for the Catalans considering how things went down that day.

Those early struggles against Real Sociedad and Atlético de Madrid are long gone. Instead, Real Madrid is enjoying one of their hottest streaks of all time and it doesn't look like it will slow down anytime soon.

Five different players scored five different ways for Real Madrid.

After the break, Real Madrid came out and poured it on Rayo to the tune of three second half goals. I manned the <strike>paintbrush</strike> err, trackpad to break down what allowed Real to pull away from Rayo.

Bale's back!

How bored was Gareth Bale while he was out with injury through both Liverpool ties and the season's first Clásico? When he wasn't tweeting updates of the games from his living room, I like to imagine he was just standing around his (presumably) fancy house in his Halloween costume.

It took 9 minutes for Bale to get on the scoresheet, but it was really the work of Toni Kroos which enabled the goal. Rayo were trying to get the ball out of their third and backed themselves into a tough spot on the wing. The moment Real recognized Rayo didn't have a clear outlet near the touchline, James, Kroos and Benzema all pressured the ball immediately. Rayo had nowhere to go with the ball, and it made for an easy steal for Kroos. A quick 1-2 pass later and Kroos was crashing the box.

This really only shows how slim the passing lane was for Kroos, but he threaded the needle perfectly with his weak foot. Bale will seldom score an easier goal.

Ramos doubles the lead

Sergio Ramos' goal, which came from a James corner, was pretty simple. Real's corner movement hasn't been overly complicated, players are just attacking the ball in the air more aggressively than they were in the first month of the season. What a luxury it is to have virtually every defender on the roster be a goal-scoring threat from set pieces. Ramos, Pepe and Marcelo stick out, but even Carvajal and Varane probably strike fear in opponents.

James has a brain fart

Oh, this was a fun one. Well, at the time it was unnerving, but watching this on replay is pretty quality slapstick comedy.

Some things in history defy logic and lack scientific explanation, and James' back-pass on Saturday is one of them. I have no idea what he saw or if someone was supposed to be there.

Rayo had just been moving the ball pretty comfortably in Real's third, and had just earned a corner. Somehow the ball ended up at James' feet with three Rayo players on him. The closest player to James at the time of the pass was Ramos, who was very obviously going forward. Maybe he meant to send it to Navas, but the pass didn't have nearly enough weight on it, nor would that have been a particularly good idea.

But for reasons beyond my comprehension, James sent it back, Alberto Bueno took it with ease, and just for good measure Pepe tackled Navas to ensure Rayo the easy goal. We all do dumb things in moments of panic, and that's what I'm chalking this up to be on James' part.

Kroos nets his first Real Madrid goal

Toni Kroos likes to shoot the ball really hard. With his new, deeper, more holding role at Madrid, he hadn't found the net, but before Saturday he had come close a number of times.

As brilliant as Kroos' shot was, this was a really smart play by Ronaldo. It started as a scene we've seen hundreds of times: Ronaldo dribbles on the wing, cuts in and starts some fancy footwork. The red line shows his possible shooting angle, one that Ronaldo is more than capable of hitting. But instead he tees it up to Kroos who was crashing down the middle, who shot a change-up when Rayo were expecting a fastball.

I think it's worth applauding how unselfish Ronaldo's been the last month. Against Barça he was almost too unselfish, and his assist to Kroos was not only unselfish, but really smart. Look for more plays like this from Real going forward: a winger's working inside and sends it to the top of the box for Kroos or Modrić to have a go.

Benzema gets lucky

Just as Rayo's goal probably shouldn't have happened, Real's fourth definitely shouldn't have happened.

Rayo had a throw-in right next to their corner flag, and it ended up being a broken play. Pepe was pressing high, came crashing in and passed it to Ronaldo, whose shot was tipped in by a very offside Karim Benzema.

Just like Real's first goal, the players pressed really hard when Rayo were deep in their own zone on the wings. There are nine white shirts on frame here, showing that Ancelotti really, really loves to give opponents headaches on the wings, whether it's in Real's zone or the opponent's.

Isco and Ronaldo keep it simple

Ronaldo met his quota of a goal per game with relative ease.

This was probably the simplest goal of the night: Real were on the break, Isco placed a perfect pass to Ronaldo, with Ramos dummying the ball through his legs. Rather, this was a simple goal to execute with two players in top form. Cristian Alvarez probably saves Ronaldo's shot most nights, but the score was probably in his head as he let it trickle through his legs and into the net. I can't help but feel bad for him for giving this one up.

Upon review, Real were more lucky than the scoreline shows. Benzema and Ronaldo's goals probably don't count most nights, and Rayo had a goal taken away on a very tight offsides call just before Kroos' goal. Regardless, Ancelotti's offensive machine hummed along as Real Madrid remain atop La Liga going into the international break.

Not the most convincing display compared to recent weeks but Los Blancos get the blowout victory regardless - a sign of a top side!

Navas: 6 - It was quite a surprise to see Navas start the game and it was an interesting performance from the Costa Rican goalkeeper. He missed an aerial ball which almost led to a goal but other than that played well and made some decent stops particularly one from a Leo Baptistao shot in the early stages.

Nacho: 7 - Another refreshing addition to see in the starting XI was Nacho. The Spanish defender had a fairly quiet game going forward as he wasn't very involved in Madrid's play in possession but was always solid on defence and ended the game with the joint-most tackles.

Pepe: 7 - An energetic display from the 31 year old centre back. He was charging through the midfield at times and produced an assist by doing so. By contrast, his defensive performance wasn't as great as it has been but it certainyl wasn't bad as he contributed with a couple of important interceptions.

Ramos: 9 - Another colossal performance by the Real Madrid defender. His form has been very good and he followed it up with another top display. Yet another goal from a set piece was complimented with great defensive play racking up the most clearances and interceptions whilst winning more aerial duels and free-kicks than anyone else.

Marcelo: 7 - In comparison to recent outings it was a reasonably quiet game going forward for Marcelo despite having a few nice dribbles - perhaps the result of Isco's absence for the majority of the match. Regardless, he was again solid on defence winning the joint-most tackles with Nacho and completing many clearances too.

Kroos: 9 - The midfield conductor was magnificent once more today. Even though Rayo had more posssession Kroos' passing was still immaculate with a 94% - the highest of any starter - completion rate. Defensively he put in a great shift without the ball. Furthermore, he scored a cracking goal, placed an assist and made more key passes than anyone else.

Modric: 6 - He had less of an influence on the game with his performance today compared to previous outings as well as missing a great chance to score. That said, he helped Kroos in the midfield as per usual and made some great dribbles when Los Blancos were attacking.

James: 5 - Not at his best today. He made an error which led to Rayo's only goal by literally passing them the ball. It's not a big deal though, perhaps he just needed a rest as he's played a lot of minutes this season. His crossing was good though and he had a great long-range shot to test Alvarez in the 38th minute.

Bale: 8 - It was a good all action performance from Gareth today. He scored early on to give Real the instant advantage as well as completing 5 take-ons which was more than anyone else. He always looked dangerous too and his raw pace couldn't be dealt with by the Rayo back line. Defensively he contributed nearly nothing and his passing was a bit sloppy too at times.

Ronaldo: 9 - Another outstanding performance by the Portugese phenom. A goal, two assists, 3 key passes and 3 successful take-ons completed a generally well-rounded offensive performance. His passing also could have done with a bit of work though as it was often inaccurate.

Benzema: 7 - He scored yet another goal to keep his incredible goalscoring run going - albeit being miles offside - and was quite unlucky not to have another with a superb header which bounced off the woodwork. Other than that, I noticed he was a little less prolific with his link-up play today than in recent outings.

Subs:

Isco: 6 - He came on in the 67th minute and bagged himself an assist with a nice ball through the defence to Cristiano.

Medran & Chicharito had insufficient minutes.

Man of the Match: - Toni Kroos. A magnificent performance capped off with his first goal for Real Madrid!

A sloppy first half saw Los Blancos pull away in the second.

First half

The game started off fairly strong with both sides attacking and Marcelo being forced to defend a strong Rayo cross in the third minute. Not much happened through eight minutes until Bale was in the right place to receive a low cross from Kroos to put Madrid up 1-0. Rayo did a nice job recovering and holding on to the ball to cross repeatedly on their left side with Madrid bungling a corner in 15th minute, but Rayo didn't capitalize in time. Not much happened for the next five or so minutes as Rayo did a nice job holding on to the ball while Madrid looked sloppy as Keylor had to make back-to-back saves around the 20th minute. Following a quick counterattack, Cristiano was brought down on break at the 22 minute mark but no foul was given even though replays showed little contact between the ball and the defender.

Aside from a dangerous Rayo header which barely missed the far post, not much happened until the 37th minute where James' long range shot was acrobatically saved by the Rayo keeper. In the 39th minute, Bale attacked down the flank where his cross was deflected for a corner which then led to Sergio Ramos somehow utilizing his knee to guide the ball into the back of the net after a lucky deflection. Keylor was called into action a few minutes later as he palmed away a stinging low shot, but it was the 44th minute when disaster struck as James attempted a poor backpass to Keylor which Rayo pounced on and put in the back of the net as Pepe managed to tackle Navas in a comedy of errors.

Second half

The second half started shaky for Madrid, needing a Pepe clearance in the 46th minute and then seeing him come off a few seconds later with bloody head following a second clearance. Luka Modric had clear look at goal in the 52nd following a strong Gareth Bale run but skied it because he apparently only wants to score from outside the box. Leo Baptistao found himself on the receiving end of confusing Rayo attack and scored in the 54th minute but it was rightly ruled offsides, however, Madrid countered right away with Kroos immediately launching a gorgeous thunderbastard following a pass by Cristiano. Four minutes later it was Ronaldo again with a low cross with Benz on the receiving end to tap it in though he was badly offsides (that's seven straight games with a goal for Benzema, four of last seven Liga goals assisted by CR).

Rayo essentially deflated after that with some beautiful interplay between Benz and CR almost leading to bale scoring in the 66th. Isco came on at the 67 minute mark and Rayo nearly got their second in the 73rd after Pepe collided with Keylor (again). Not much happened after that until Bale unleashed a volley rocket which was acrobatically saved, but the keeper made himself look silly as just a few minutes later Ronaldo took a pass from Isco on the counter and slotted it weakly between his legs. Chicharito and Medran got some minutes coming on right after and CR almost got his third assist as he laid it off for Medran whose shot was saved. A couple minutes later, the game was over with Madrid picking up a solid 5-1 victory.

Toni Kroos has not had many scoring chances for Real Madrid considering how deep he plays. He has adapted well to his new Xabi Alonso role, but it was only a matter of time that he displayed how good of a long-range shot he has. This appeared to be an easy game for Real Madrid until James Rodriguez made an atrocious mistake right before halftime and allowed Rayo to cut Real's lead to 2-1. Luckily enough for Real, when Ancelotti and his pupils were suffering the most against Rayo's corner-kicks, Kroos was able to make it 3-1.

Carlo Ancelotti will leave either James or Isco on the bench in order to make some room for Gareth Bale, who makes his return to the Starting XI, according to the Italian coach. Other than that, Real Madrid should not make more rotations ahead of the next FIFA break.

Real Madrid Projected XI: Casillas, Arbeloa, Pepe, Ramos, Marcelo, Kroos, Modric, James, Bale, Ronaldo, Benzema.

It will be interesting to see if Real Madrid keep using the 4-4-2 formation with Bale in the lineup, as the Welshman is a bit more offensive-minded than James and Isco. Still, he provedthat he can contribute defensively during Real Madrid's 0-4 win at the Allianz Arena, a game in which he helped Dani Carvajal against Ribéry while launching counterattacks as well.

Gareth Bale will earn a place in Real Madrid's Starting XI and the spotlight of what should be a manageable contest for los blancos.

The next FIFA break is upon us, which means that there will be some risk of Real Madrid players getting injured. That's why Real Madrid cannot afford to drop any points against a Rayo Vallecano side who have improved after kicking-off the 2014-2015 in really bad form.

Paco Jémez is always that kind of brave coach who refuses to play defensively such games, and that's the main reason why his record against the elite teams in La Liga isn't impressive. Rayo will probably try to have the possession at the Bernabéu, something that is not very likely against Ancelotti's skilled midfield. But still, Real Madrid should enjoy some counterattacking chances down the road, especially if los blancos manage to get the lead soon. Considering that Gareth Bale will make his return to Real's starting lineup, Ancelotti's team will have more firepower and quickness in the open field.

Asier Illarramendi and Sami Khedira will sit this match out after missing Real's 1-0 win against Liverpool as well. Fàbio Coentrao and Jesé made their return to Real Madrid's training sessions today but they will not be able to feature in a match until the end of this month, Ancelotti confirmed.

Frankly, this match should not be a problem for Real Madrid, as Rayo's weak spot lies on their defensive system. Add that to Real Madrid's offensive threats and you can have a blowout win in the making. Ancelotti will only need to make sure his players stay "professional and serious" -- two words he likes to use about this 2014-2015 Real Madrid squad -- in order to get the three points and stay atop of the Liga BBVA table at least until this FIFA break ends.
